Shaken by the earthquake, the Turkish economy is critical again.

“Shaken by the earthquake, the Turkish economy is critical again.”

The earthquakes that occurred in Turkey and Syria had a massive impact on the people and the country's economy. The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.8 which resulted in widespread damage and destruction with victims so far exceeding 7,900 people and being the strongest earthquake recorded in Turkey since 1939.

The earthquake added new problems to the Turkish economy. After the earthquake, the Turkish lira hit a record low and the stock market also plunged. This adds to pressure from a stronger US dollar as well as geopolitical risks to inflation. The lira slumped to 18.85 against the US dollar. Turkey's BIST100 stock index also fell 4.6% with bank shares tumbling more than 5 percent before paring losses with the main index losing around 2.5%.

Let's all pray for Turkey and Syria during this hard time.
