Here's What you Can Do After Being Laid Off

“Here's What you Can Do After Being Laid Off”

Last week we discussed how the phenomenon of mass layoffs occurs in various countries and in various work industries. It is—indeed without a doubt become one of the challenging phases of life for those who experience it.

However, being laid can not validate one's value nor skill a reflection of your skill set—it’s a reflection of your former company’s lack of proper planning during a turbulent economy or its change in business strategy.

If you’re one of the people who are currently experiencing it, we have 3 lists of things that you can do after being laid off:

1. Write down your accomplishments from your last company as a reflection of your current skills and capabilities. You could use CARL (Context, Action, Result, Learning) or STAR(T) (Situation, Task, Action, Result + Takeaways) methods.
2. Know what you want and identify the next step. Do you want to work for a small company or a big company? Do you want to stay in the same role or move into a different career? These are the values that you should have in mind to make sure that the next job you take would be aligned with what you really want.
3. Create a job-hunting schedule—but before that, research it. Looking for a job is hard, and you could feel overwhelmed with the process. Hence, creating a weekly or daily schedule will keep you on track, and do some research on the position, the company, etc before applying.

Most importantly, take your time, don’t rush in, and be confident of your values.

In your opinion, how long do you think should be for people to bounce back after being laid off?
