Time Management Lessons for Youth from Retirees

“We often wish for more time to accomplish everything on our never-ending to-do lists.”

Young people often find it challenging to juggle between activities, whether it’s jobs, socializing, or as simple household chores. We often wish for more time to accomplish everything on our never-ending to-do lists. However, when it comes to time management, we can learn from retirees who have extensive life experience. Here are some of their lessons.

1. Prioritize our time. Not all activities are equally important. Sometimes we may have spent too much time on a job and neglected our health and well-being. We surely don’t want to spend more time and money on health recovery later in our retirement, do we?

2. Share our time. Sharing time is an act of kindness. We may spend our time with colleagues, and loved ones, or volunteer in our community while building networks at the same time.

3. Find our passions. Passions generally lead to positive emotions and, in turn, improve psychological well-being (Vallerand, 2012). We may spare some of our time to pursue passions, and it’s fun too!
